Back pain is almost an inevitable thing, an aching sensation that will affect the majority of the population at least once in their lives. Solutions against this are widely varied. One of the most well-known and well-trusted treatments today is chiropractic care. At Chiropractic Works, we offer the most thorough evaluations and comprehensive protocols for back pain to help you heal and recover.
Chiropractic care is the process of manipulating the spine, bones, muscles, and other parts of the musculoskeletal system to restore proper functional position and movement. Patients with back pain, herniated discs, and similar issues benefit the most from it.
Since this method is conservative and addresses the source rather than the symptoms, chiropractic care is popular among those who don’t like invasive treatments. It’s also a holistic form of care, addressing the source of the pain as well as the patient’s lifestyle.

Stress and tension along the spine can cause pain, especially in the lumbar area. Sports and manual work may cause strain on the back bones, which can slowly turn into severe back pain.
Facet joints can degrade over time without the proper attention, like regular chiropractic care, resulting in arthritis-like symptoms like pain and inflammation along the spine.
Osteoarthritis is the gradual deterioration of the cartilage between joints. Also known as Degenerative Disc Disease or DDD/DJD, it causes a painful feeling in areas where two bones meet.
A herniated disc happens when a fragment of the disc’s nucleus is pushed out from behind the fibrous tissues that normally contain the disc. This can cause sharp pain and numbness if the protruding fragment ends up putting pressure on a nerve.
Pain from a bulging disc can feel similar to herniated disc since both can push pressure onto the nerves. However, a bulging disc is a little bit less severe since it has not yet come completely out from within the fibrous tissues that contain it.
When the sciatic nerve is irritated by a bulging or herniated disc, a patient will experience what’s called sciatica. Sciatic nerve pain is a radiating pain that affects the lower half of the body and can be treated with chiropractic care.
Here are some of the things you can expect at your first back pain chiropractic care appointment with Chiropractic Works.
We’ll discuss your medical history, current diagnoses (if there are any), medications, and other relevant medical information. This allows us to investigate thoroughly to detect potential issues that could affect how we provide chiropractic care.
Chiropractic care is holistic. Aside from addressing your current back issues, we’ll also provide additional screening to identify early signs of preventable problems and find signs of hidden musculoskeletal problems. That way, we can recommend treatment to prevent them from escalating.
You’ll also undergo neurological and nervous system exams to check whether your nerves and reflexes are working properly. This is one way to check if certain conditions are affecting your nerves, like how a herniated disc affects your sciatic nerve.
Once the evaluations and initial consultations are over, your chiropractor will develop a personalized treatment plan for your unique situation.
Your chiropractor might start treatment during your first visit. If so, you’ll lie on a treatment table while your chiropractor gently adjusts your spine to address your back issues. Usually as spinal function and joint health is restored, the pain subsides.
While there are a few ways to treat back pain, chiropractic care emerges at the top thanks to its noninvasive and holistic approach. It treats the source rather than the symptoms, allowing you to heal from whatever is causing your aches and pains. Since it focuses on conservative efforts, it can be a better alternative to traditional medicine and surgery.

Yes, a chiropractor has the skills to gently manipulate the spine and address the cause of the back pain.
These are manual therapy, soft tissue therapy, exercise or movement therapy and then the goal is to educate the patient on methods for home-care and self-management.
Chiropractors check a patient’s range of motion, gait and posture, joint and muscle palpation, and lab results to know where to adjust.
It depends on the situation, but the most common frequency is two to three times a week during the first two to three weeks depending on the severity of the issues, then after that the frequency will decrease and eventually to the point where you are just coming in occasionally for preventative spinal check-ups.
You’ll start feeling relief a week or two after your first treatment. In the long term, you’ll notice that your symptoms stop returning and you overall feel better than ever.
